My Dals

Kirby joined my family in January 2006. My previous male Dal, Apache, passed away a few days after Christmas. A wonderful woman named Cheryl Weber, a grief counselor at the U. of I., told me about Dal Rescue of Illinois. Cheryl had adopted a Dal named Mickey from them a few years earlier. I contacted Susan Linden and shortly thereafter she made a home visit and brought Kirby with her. I had never seen a liver Dal in person before and immediately fell in love with him. He joined my female Dal, Cheyenne, and my friend Shawn's Dal, Lakota, and we were all one big happy extended Dal family. After a few months it seemed like something was missing. Kirby played with Cheyenne occasionally, but she was almost 9 and didn't always have a lot of patience. He loved going to the dog park and made a lot of doggy friends there, but he always seem depressed when we left. Since I suffer from MDS (Multiple Dalmatian Syndrome) it seemed the only cure was to adopt another one :) So on May 3rd, 2006, Kirby & I went over to the South Suburban Humane Society to meet DASH. The boys clicked immediately and have become fast friends. DASH, aka the Red Headed Stepchild, is a total clown. Kirby is probably the sweetest boy I have ever known. He DOESN'T bark, which is really surprising for a Dal. He will make a few token woofs at squirrels and that's it. Cheyenne, on the other hand, is a motor mouth. She doesn't shut up outside. She will run in circles around the yard and bark as she completes laps. It's almost like she's counting. After a dozen laps or so, she will reverse direction and "unwind" Lakota and her "dad" Shawn visit regularly from Peoria. Shawn is a paraplegic and Lakota is his service dog. It makes for a lot of Dal hair and not much room in the bed since all 4 dogs sleep with me. A new liver puppy will be joining Shawn & Lakota's family shortly after Christmas this year. Shawn will be making a trip to Madison, MS to pick him up. His parent's are Aberdeen's Time Bandit (Bandit) and JVL's Meet Me In Memphis (Gracie) It should make for a lot of fun when we have all 5 dogs together. Guess I will have to get a king sized bed now! :)
